While we are used to schools being state champions in various sports, it is great to hear that Vicksburg High School has been declared an "Academic State Champion," one of only 54 champs in the state! The Award was made by Bridge Magazine, a magazine dedicated to improvement in education, health, and governance in Michigan.
The award was made based three measurements: college readiness based on ACT scores, percentage of graduates that enrolled post high school educational programs, and the number of graduates who were still pursuing a degree or had graduated from a college or similar school in the past four years.
From the 640 high schools for which reliable data was available, the magazine broke the schools down by student family income and percentage of students qualifying for free and reduced lunch. VHS was in the Category of "Above Average Income" along with 178 other high schools. Only 14 of these were declared Academic Champs!
