CLASSES CELEBRATING REUNIONS IN 2008 AND BEYOND
CLASS OF 1948 - 60th CLASS REUNION UPDATE
Our 60th Class Reunion was wonderful. There were 13 classmates in attendance. The ones that traveled the furthest were Jim Berger from Vista, CA and Ken Gammon from Lakeland, FL. We started the celebration of our 60th by attending the Alumni Breakfast on Saturday morning. Then in the afternoon we went to Larry and Beverly (Butler) Lewis' to visit and pass the time until it was time for dinner.
The evening dinner was at Fisher Lake where we enjoyed each others company and everyone got up and spoke about what they had been doing and what was happening in their lives. It was very nice. We have 24 classmates left out of 36.
On Monday, after the reunion, Ken Gammon and Jean DeHaan visited everyone in the area that did not attend the reunion. They spent at least an hour with each and had a wonderful time. Jean called the out-of-towners and updated them on the reunion and let them know that the next one will be in three years. She encouraged each of them to make an effort to attend. Everyone agreed to have it on a Friday night in 2011.
CLASS of 1958 - 50th CLASS REUNION UPDATE
Our 50th reunion was a huge success. We started with the Vicksburg Alumni Breakfast sponsored by the Lions Club and the Vicksburg Alumni Association. Then that evening we had our reunion at the Pine View Golf Club in Three Rivers. The dinner was marvelous, the staff at Pine View Golf were terrific and the evening of visiting with old friends was fantastic.
Of the 98 members in the graduating class, 15 are now deceased. We had 51 classmates who attended the dinner. The couples married the longest, 50 years, were Charlotte Smith Dehollander, Janice Gose Truckey and Carol Fish Henderson. John Rishel, Terry Brown and Jerry Yoder each had four children, the highest number. However, because of a second marriage, Robert Crouch had the most grandchildren -19. The two having the youngest child, age 23, were Steve Kukolich and Terry Brown. Shirley Miller Combs had the oldest child -age 51. The classmate traveling the furthest distance to get to the reunion was Stephen Kukolich, of Tucson, AZ.
CLASS OF 1968 - 40th CLASS REUNION UPDATE
Our 40th Class Reunion was held on Saturday August 2, 2008. The festivities commenced on Friday, August 1, 2008 with a Tour of Vicksburg High School. All of the tour attendees thought it was very interesting to see all the changes that have occurred at the high school compared to 40 years ago. A get-together of the tour attendees ensued afterward at Brewster's Pub in Portage and continued at Bennigan's Grill and Tavern in Kalamazoo. A lot of laughter filled the air as many stories of those days gone by as well as stories of new adventures were swapped back and forth.
The 40th Reunion continued on Saturday, August 2, 2008, at the Main St. Pub of Vicksburg with a Buffet Dinner. Approximately 45 classmates and 25 guests attended the event. Bill Cohrs traveled all the way from Texas to attend, while Bunny Stenstrom and her husband traveled from Washington State, Ken Fox drove in from Georgia and Dan Frakes traveled from Virginia.
Honored guests of the class included former Teachers and Coaches Mr. & Mrs. Ed Knapp, Mr. & Mrs. Paul Schutter, Mr. Roland Peach and Mr. Tom Horn. Mr. Knapp, Mr. Schutter and Mr. Horn were all honored as members of Vicksburg's Athletic Hall of Fame. Mr. Horn rose and provided some kind comments and some of his remembrances of The Class of 1968. OOOOPS! We missed Mr. Blough! Uh Oh, I guess we are getting old eh! Somebody pass the Ginko! We did see Mr. Blough at one of our Reunion Committee Meetings, so we did get to say Hi, but then in the last minute rush, we forgot to invite him to the Reunion. We apologize Sir! You were a very important part of the Success of the Class of 1968.
Also receiving special recognition were Vicksburg Athletic Hall of Fame Members from The Class of 1968, Bill Cohrs, Ken Fox and Larry Grubka. Bill Cohrs, who was also the Class President and Valedictorian in 1968, rose and provided some of his own remembrances and comments. Man, that dude is still tall!
The event was MC'd by Class of 1968 member, John, 'Funny Bones', Brown. Another class member, Charlie Crouch, offered a Toast to his classmates, teachers, coaches and friends. And Class member Mike Brockway offered a Dinner Prayer just prior to the meal.
Class members Larry Forsyth, Karen Barney VanderBor, Shirley Bartos Meyle and Laurie Kendall Brown kept the evening rolling along smoothly by handling all of the many little details of the evening after greeting the incoming classmates at the door.
A 50/50 Raffel was held and two winners walked away with a nice chunk of change (almost enough to buy a gallon of gas), to spend as they please. The remaining one-half of the money was saved as seed money for the next reunion. Also, many door prizes were given away to lucky classmates and guests.
Ken Fox closed the evening with a prayer in honor of our classmates, teachers, coaches and friends.
Vicksburg's Class of 1968, 40 years more mature, but still Radiating that Vibrant and Omnipresent Class Spirit that was their Hallmark, offers a generous and sincere 'Thank You!' to all of the Vicksburg Area Businesses and Individuals who provided the many Door Prizes, and to Vicksburg Community School's Personnel for hosting the Tour of the High School.
Lastly, but most importantly, Vicksburg's Class of 1968 offers a most heartfelt and genuine 'Thank You!', to all of the Teachers, Coaches, Administrators, Employees of the High School, and Citizens of Vicksburg who provided us with a First Rate Education and Life Experience. None of you, not even for a single moment, will ever be forgotten!
Go Bulldogs!!!!
